PREVIEW:

Evolution Festival Newcastle – Tipped to Be the Best Yet

This Bank Holiday weekend sees one of the best line-ups ever for Newcastle’s Evolution music festival.

evo 2013The festival, known as ‘the Evo’ to locals, has some of the biggest names on the music scene performing including The Vaccines, Jake Bugg, The Strypes, Rudimental, Paloma Faith and Ellie Goulding.

Evolution 2013

Even better, unlike most of this summer’s festivals, which will set you back the best part of £100 – a weekend ticket for Evolution is only £39 – making it affordable and accessible for everyone.

For that you get a host of great names playing at various stages along the famous Quayside and a whole lot of fun in one of the friendliest cities in the UK (which in itself is packed with loads to do – check here Visit NewcastleGateshead

The organisers have clearly pulled a blinder by booking these acts well in advance of their profiles rocketing in the last year and so anyone going is getting to see some amazing acts for fantastic value.

Here’s the low-down on the acts that are performing this Sunday and Monday:

Rudimental have topped both the album and singles charts and are one of the crossover acts of 2013

Bastille have emerged as the breakthrough indie act of 2013 with their number 1 album Bad Blood and the huge single Pompeii

Local girl Lulu James has received huge critical acclaim and will be appearing on Later with Jools Holland this week.

Jake Bugg has topped the album charts and has been nominated for an Ivor Novello award

The Vaccines have graduated to an arena act, selling out venues across the country

AlunaGeorge have enjoyed a stream of hit records and appeared on the dance floor hit of the year White Noise

My personal favourites are The Strypes a four-piece from Cavan in Ireland who are aged only 15-16 years old but have the rock’n’roll vibe of the early Rolling Stones and some great haircuts!

So, if you are wondering what to do with yourself this Bank Holiday Weekend get yourselves up to Newcastle for Evolution 2013 – clearly in a class of its own as an urban, city music festival.

Best of all, no need for wellies or finding yourself in a muddy field looking for your tent… it’s all taking place in the heart of the city.
