Choosing the perfect honeymoon destination can be a headspinner for couples with varying interests. Finding a destination that offers not only romance but adventure, fun and some heavenly beach time can be a challenge. However, a Florida escape could be just the ticket! Here we look at why the Sunshine State ticks all the boxes for an unforgettable honeymoon!

Could the Sunshine State of Florida be your perfect honeymoon escape? We think so…

Florida is a destination that offers a little bit of everything when it comes to your honeymoon. Whether it’s a relaxing and romantic escape with a sunny beach, or a chance to explore and have your own adventure, Florida has it all.

The big resorts such as Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando might be the headline acts when it comes to holidays in Florida, but there’s a whole lot more to the state than theme parks. In what could arguably be one of the world’s most underrated honeymoon locations, we’ve compiled our top must-do activities in the Sunshine State to help you celebrate your wedding in style.

Explore the ocean floor

The islands of the Florida Keys sit among some of the world’s most stunning underwater scenery. You can either explore them in a glass-bottomed boat, or dive down into the clear blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. You can even choose to get up close and personal with some sea creatures at Discovery Cove’s SeaVenture, part of SeaWorld Orlando.

Lap up the sun on the beach

Turquoise water and golden sand … Florida!

If you’d rather spend your time relaxing on a beach, the Sunshine State will certainly not disappoint, with the state boasting over 1,350 miles of coastline for you to explore. Whether it’s the secluded islands of the Florida Keys, the white, calm and uncrowded sands of St Pete Beach, or the film star glamour of Miami Beach among its art deco buildings, you’ll find the perfect place to relax.

Ponder the universe

Holding hands and looking up at the stars is one of the more simple pleasures in life – but what are you really looking at when you do? A visit to the Kennedy Space Centre is sure to answer your questions and, while not a mega-romantic trip in itself, learning about space is always humbling. Taking the time to appreciate it on your honeymoon is never a bad way to go.

Beachfront dinner for two

Being surrounded by beautiful ocean means that seafood is one of Florida’s specialities, and there are plenty of idyllic beachfront restaurants for you to enjoy it. Why not take a table for two and enjoy a romantic meal together? Oysters are an aphrodisiac, after all.

All-American road trip

With the state of Florida covering 66,000 square miles, one of the best ways to see as much of it as possible is to hire a convertible car and take yourself on an all-American road trip. State road A1A runs from Key West, an island off the southernmost tip of Florida, up the state’s eastern side along the Atlantic Ocean almost to its northern border with Georgia, and is one of the most scenic routes to take.

On the way, you can go on a ‘turtle walk’ at Fort Lauderdale, where you can see the endangered sea turtles nesting on the beach between March and October. At Daytona Beach, take a stroll along the boardwalk where you can ride the ferris wheel together. At the A1A’s northernmost point at the historic Amelia Island, take a tour of Fort Clinch State Park to learn about its roles in the Spanish-American War and Civil War.

Take a tour through the Everglades

The spectacular Everglades National Park is like a film set sitting at the southernmost tip of Florida, and its wetlands are a must-see for wildlife lovers, with some of the world’s most endangered species among its mangroves. Airboats are available to hire with a driver, and speeding through the scenery is often described by couples as the highlight of their trip. Just keep an eye out for the alligators!

Share an adrenaline rush

It may be the obvious choice, but it’s for good reason that Florida’s major theme parks are renowned around the world. All of the major resorts in Florida have rides to get the adrenaline pumping. Try out the Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Orlando, or the Journey to Atlantis water ride at SeaWorld Orlando. Who better to hold onto for dear life than your new partner?

Watch the fireworks

Let’s face it, you’re never too old for Disney. But even if it isn’t quite your thing, there’s something undeniably special about watching the incredible fireworks display over the castle in the Magic Kingdom Park. Enjoy the display from a private cruise outside the park for the perfect romantic evening.
