Firzone Portable Infrared Sauna Review:

During the last 12 months of Covid and various lockdowns I am not embarrassed to admit that I’ve had a whole host of deliveries of items to my home that I NEVER thought I would make.

A quick glance at my ordering history with various well-known online shops shows I’ve ordered everything from a home kettle bell kit and rebounder, to a ridiculous array of garden furniture and some very questionable and unnecessary purchases of possibly the UK’s largest collection of curly hair products!

However, I have used a lot of my time getting educated and learning about helpful and clever bio hacks – habits and activities that boost our health and mental functioning like no other.

Why I decided to buy a Firzone Portable Infrared Sauna…

As some readers may know, I’ve lived with auto-immune disease Rheumatoid Arthritis since my teens. It’s a devastating condition and at its worst can result in severe disability, fatigue and even reduce lifespan. Unlike regular arthritis, RA is inflammatory and it attacks not only the joints but the internal organs too.

I’ve had every conventional treatment there is – from steroids, powerful anti-inflammatory painkillers, gold injections (yes, liquid gold), cancer treatment drugs such methotextrate and even the drug that was briefly flouted by Trump as a possible cure for Covid, Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate.

However, despite always being open and receptive to conventional treatments, I’ve also had a passion for learning and understanding my body from a holistic perspective too. This means looking at lifestyle and non-invasive ways of supporting my health, especially my immune system.

I’ve found HUGE relief from practising hot yoga in an infrared heated studio as well as runs, walks, fun classes at the gym and tadah… aqua therapy. This can be everything from swimming, heated spa pools, saunas, steams and yep, ice cold showers and even dips in the sea!

A home portable sauna was the answer!

However, Covid put a stop to this health-boosting routines I had developed and while I did my best to create DIY yoga classes and get moving at home, I REALLY missed the heat.

Once the UK January 2021 lockdown was announced, I don’t mind admitting it – I was miserable. There is nothing better for our mental and physical health than a consistent exercise, self-care and relaxation routine.

Always one to keep on top the latest tools for biohacking and supporting my body and mind, that’s when I discovered there was such a thing as portable infrared saunas!

I was a little bit cynical – in my head I thought nothing could beat the gorgeous toasty heat of the full-size Nordic sauna or high-tech steam room at my health club.

Likewise, the soothing and healing benefit from infrared heat I had so loved from  my hot yoga classes could surely not be recreated in a strange looking contraption such as these portable saunas I had discovered on Firzone’s Instagram page!

How best to find out? I ordered one!

Here’s a bit about the science behind using infrared saunas

The positive therapeutic effects of far infrared rays: 80% of the suns rays come under the wavelength of ‘far infrared:. Often referred to as the ‘light of life’ for its importance to growth and nature, far infrared heat can be soothing, healing and energising. Firzone’s thermal products use the latest technologies to generate far infrared heat at the most beneficial wavelengths.

Is it worth buying one? Yes – it’s my best purchase of the last year

So, here I am 5 weeks on, which I think is a good period of time to do an honest, thorough review and I have to say, I LOVE my Firzone.

When it arrived I excitedly unpacked it in my spare room and it was ready to use in minutes. It is such a clever design: the infrared panels are inbuilt and the whole thing is foldable, so you can store it in a wardrobe or under the bed when it is not in use.

However, I’ve never had to do that because I use it nearly every day. I do a really quick skin brush and click it on for 30 mins (maybe longer on an especially on a frosty or gloomy morning) and jump in the shower afterwards.

And yes, I do a Wim Hof flourish of a 60 seconds ice cold shower and feel absolutely wonderful afterwards.

Best of all, I can chill and even meditate (or listen to an uplifting podcast and my fave tunes) while I sit on my little stool and allow the gorgeous very safe heat to radiate all over my body.

Benefits…

You get a great sweat and feel fantastically detoxed after. For me especially, my joints feel soothed and extra flexible and my skin feels so soft and looks so heathy.

There are loads of studies on the benefits of infrared heat and especially saunas and these include: regulating blood sugar; burning fat; being better able to fight off infections and even tumors, and even in the fight against dementia.

Which portable sauna should you get?

It’s getting hot in here!

Firzone do a variety of models and I went for the Tourmaline Pro With Ceramic Heater as this comes with a great additional infrared heater that gets the portable sauna super-hot fast. It’s a bit more pricey, so don’t be put off by going for a regular Portable Infrared Sauna, as I can confirm those models are fantastic and also heat up beautifully and get the same great benefits, just without the booster heat of mine.

How to care for it?

It’s a doddle. I put a fresh little hand towel down on my stool. The sauna comes with a foldaway chair but I use a little stool of my own that allows the rear panel to really heat my back. I always pop a little towel down too underneath to catch any sweat and steam.

After my session, I leave it zipped open to air, after a quick wipe down with a cloth – I do use a spray of eco-friendly antibacterial cleaner so it smells fresh for my next session.

I hope this review has been helpful – let me know if you order one and how you find it. Stay happy and healthy guys…
